I chose this link partially because it stars Jemaine Clement, a great musician/comedian/actor from the television show “Flight of the Conchords.”  But at the same time, I chose it because I think it portrays steak as a source of strength, the way Barthes said it did.  Barthes wrote about steak, “It is the heart of meat, it is meat in its pure state; and whoever partakes of it assimilates a bull-like steak.”  In the commercial, the man doesn’t seem to be saying outright, “I have strength,” but it’s implied in the way he says he’s going to eat the giant rib-eye steak.

When he mentions the fact that he could be a chicken man, he changes his mind and says, “No, I’m definitely a steak man.”  For him, being a chicken man doesn’t hold as much status or prestige as being a “steak man.”
